Positive Impact of Organic Farming on Biodiversity

Positive Impact of Organic Farming on Biodiversity

Intensive agriculture has caused devastating impacts to biodiversity. Low input agricultural system, for example organic farming, creates a more sustainable agricultural soil system, which can soften the adverse impacts of agricultural intensification to biodiversity. By assessing the biodiversity in farms managed under different organic farming management regime, we aim to identify organic farming practices that can conserve native biodiversity and at the same time maintain or increase crop yield. The results will be useful in facilitating a wide adoption of organic farming and long-term sustainability of agriculture in Hong Kong.
